The Sorrentine Peninsula is well-known for its rich and diverse music. Traditional songs such as O’ Sole Mio, Santa Lucia, Tu Vo’ Fa Americano, Torna A Surriento all have their roots here among our lemon trees. Italian music was transported by Italian migrants throughout the world and is still sung here at home, where most local families carry on the tradition of singing at meals.
The most renowned venue in Sorrento hosts year-round concerts of worldwide famous Jazz, Symphony, and Blues music. Every summer the Sorrento Musical Summer Revue features the best musicians of the major Italian and foreign orchestras. The cultural event starts every year in July and lasts till September. In the cloister of San Francesco a lot of talents both emerging talents and famous musician from the international music scene meet to celebrate the occasion with all sort of performances.
The Sorrento Musical festival presents the “Tarantella” a typical dance of the southern regions which is very appreciated by tourists from all over the world. The show consists on a revue of ancient songs and dances which has always been an important part of the Sorrentine musical art, and besides, music and dance interpreted by famous artists describe the real world and the everyday life of the Peninsula.
